The Steinbeck Pencil Cup was inspired by John Steinbeck's writing ritual. Each Pencil Cup features a midcentury-inspired design with two chambers: one for full-length pencils and the other for shorter, sharpened pencils.
When we sat down with Thom Steinbeck, he told us the story of his father's writing ritual. John Steinbeck started his day by sharpening 24 Blackwing pencils and placing them in a pencil cup. As he wrote and the pencils dulled, he would place them in a second cup. Once each pencil had been used, he would start the ritual over again.
The Steinbeck Pencil Cup was created with this ritual in mind. Each Pencil Cup features a midcentury-inspired design with two chambers: one for full-length pencils and the other for shorter, sharpened pencils. The bottom of the cup is lined with cork to keep your pencil points safe. Use it to store your pencils, track their usage, and ensure you always have a sharp point.
